Jessica Lynch - Co-Founder Of YogaBaby

Jessica Lynch has been a huge inspiration of mine for a few years now. I am so blessed to have been able to interview her for my blog! Jessica is a brand new mom AND just launched a business called YogaBaby with her husband Kevin - I mean, how impressive is that?! Read on for the full interview and pictures!

How did you meet your husband? Tell me a bit about your love story.

We both met at the University of Michigan at Zaas restaurant, (I think they shut it down, so sad) but it was definitely one of those love at first sight moments. I had just finished cheer practice. I was sweaty and had my embarrassing cheer bow in at the top of my head. I remember making eye contact with him feeling embarrassed for how I looked, but clearly he didn't mind because we had this instant connection.

After that day we barely talked again (I guess it just wasn't the right time). I always wondered why, but 6 months later we reconnected, started to build a great friendship and then fell in love. Haha ...This is making a long story short. There were many ups and downs for 3 years, but it all changed when I began having feelings that he was the one.

I think the best way to make sense of love and relationships is prayer. I have no doubt that God put him in my life. Sometimes we are too blind to see the big picture. I was confused for a long time and didn't know how it would work out with him. I was nervous and scared he was going to play pro hockey, worrying that the lifestyle would be too hard. I had always played it safe with love and never wanted to be hurt. I wanted something stable and for the lifestyle to fit mine. However, I wouldn't have been able to see the answer on my own. That is why it's so important to pray about your future spouse.

Honestly, not knowing what is coming next is what makes love so great. It's supposed to be crazy and when you're in love, you will sacrifice anything to be with that person. When two people are selfless in a relationship, you really have the ability to build a life together. So, I let go of my fears about what was coming next/where I thought I needed to be and trusted Kevin and God's plan. Now, I feel that I'm living the greatest love story.

How/why did you and your husband come up with YogaBaby?

Kevin and I have always been so active, and it is extremely important to both of us to live a healthy lifestyle. After we had Ella, I began searching for an outfit that was similar to what I wear everyday, which is workout clothes! Whether I'm running errands, at the gym, working or playing with Ella, I'm constantly wearing yoga clothes - They are easy and I think there is a real trend to wear them everyday. Moms want to dress similar to their babies. I felt so silly dressing Ella up when I looked like I do every day. There are other options for babies like cotton onesies, but those don't even work - They soak up all babies' drool and spit up, and you end up changing them 3 times a day! YogaBaby is practical, adorable and just fits what moms really want today.

How is YogaBaby made?

YogaBaby is made by us currently! My business partner is a fashion designer and has amazing talent.

What do you like and dislike about being a business woman?

I have grown up in an entrepreneurial family, I live and breathe it. You have the ability to solve problems, create jobs, and bring your vision to life. I love the risk and the hard work. I dislike when things go wrong, but part of managing business is the ability to put out fires.

How do you balance being a new mom and running your own small business?

Hoping it's not small for long!! We are ready to scale and grow and are up for the challenge. Trust me being a mom and running a business is more than a full time job! Stay at home
moms get a bad rep, but it's really not fair. Raising a person to be their best in this world and to do something great is the best job of all. Our company is all about being a mom comes first! It is the best and most important job on the planet!

What are a few of your favorite things?

Well working out is definitely a favorite and so is eating! I'm such a foodie.. all those food bloggers get me every time. I try to make what they do and fail every time. However, my favorite thing in the world is my husband and baby. Just playing with Ella and spending time with Kevin completes my life! I don't need much, but I need them!

What roles do you and your husband each play in the business?

Kevin handles all finances and I take on the role of marketing. We work together on sales.

What is it like to work with your husband?

Really amazing.. he's seriously brilliant. I couldn't do it without him. He has great instincts. Also it's kind of fun to kiss him mid-work day. We are a team and always have each other's backs. We have different strengths and that is what makes us successful.

What advice would you give to young women about starting their own businesses, having fulfilling relationships, and being a new/young mom?

Easy answer - Pray! One day we're on top of the world, the next day is a low. Keeping your life in perspective and working hard for the greater picture is what keeps us in check. Also, be open with each other and communicate. It is important to see your life as one and not as individuals.

Starting your own business is tough, but be willing to risk it all and get ready to work hard. It's amazing to see your vision come to life.
